In Memoriam - Kenji Tadokoro

It is with sadness we inform you of the passing of Kenji Tadokoro

Kenji Tadokoro passed away on October 20th 2018. Throughout his working life Kenji enthusiastically nurtured warm relationships with Asian colleagues engaged in blood programs. He invited staff from many Asian countries to the Japanese Red Cross blood service, where he served as (Chief) Executive Officer for training and was instrumental in convening Red Cross and Red Crescent symposia in the Asian region every three years.

Although he made many other contributions in the areas of blood services management, GVHD and haemovigilance, Kenji’s carreer was highlighted by his leadership in the rational introduction of new donor screening assays, and particularly nucleic acid amplification technology (NAT) assays and systems.

Kenji had been a member of ISBT for many years and was a member of the ISBT Academy Standing committee from 2012 – 2015. In November 2017 Kenji was awarded the ISBT Award at the ISBT congress in Guangzhou in recognition of his contributions to blood transfusion in the Asian region.

Our thoughts are with Kenji's family and friends.
