Opening of the 32nd International Congress of the ISBT Cancún, Mexico
The official opening of the 32nd International Congress of the ISBT Cancún, Mexico was on Sunday July 8, 2012. The opening started with Silvano Wendel (ISBT President) and Julio Martinez Alvarez (Congress President) welcoming all delegates and exhibitors. They expressed how grateful they were that so many had come to Mexico and provided the audience with some interesting historical information about Mexico.
The ISBT Award was given to Hector Rodriguez Moyado, Joyce Poole and Marion Reid.
Furthermore the very first ISBT Award for Developing Countries was awarded; the honour for receiving this award was given to the Sri Lanka National Blood Transfusion Service. The Vox Sanguinis Best Paper Prize was awarded to John-Paul Tung.
After the award ceremony, delegates and exhibitors were able to learn about the Mayan culture through ancient ceremonial dance rituals to traditional music. All together it was a very successful opening while the congress still had to start...
