Membership Agreement

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLOOD TRANSFUSION MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT

The International Society of Blood Transfusion (hereafter “ISBT”) is a non-profit society organized under the laws of The Netherlands, having its registered office at Marnixstraat 317, 1016 TB Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

1.       Considerations

1.1     You are an individual who is interested in the field of Transfusion Medicine and wish to benefit from the scientific and educational activities of ISBT on the basis of a financial contribution (membership fee) and to that end, become an Individual Member of ISBT

1.2     In order to become a member you are requested to supply ISBT with certain personal information via an online application form. Information marked with an asterisk (*) is mandatory, all other information is optional.

1.3     By completing the application form you represent and warrant that all information supplied by you or somebody instructed by you on your behalf is true and correct. You are not allowed to provide “alter ego” or false information. You also undertake to engage in professional online conduct towards ISBT and other Members by refraining from sending unsolicited messages to groups of other website users, and by respecting intellectual property rights owned by ISBT and third parties.

1.4     By completing the application form and by indicating that you apply for ISBT Membership, you agree to become a member of ISBT. ISBT Membership runs for 12 months from the date of joining with a grace period of one month. Any change in the membership fee as adopted by the ISBT General Assembly will be communicated via the ISBT website.

1.5     After submitting the application to become member and payment is completed, your membership and your access to the Member benefits will be activated.

2.       Member Rights and Obligations

2.1     Individual Members (including ‘’Exempt members’’)

2.1.1       ISBT requests you to supply (and where needed, to update) the following information:

1. Name, address and contact details;

2. Date of birth;

3. Position and Primary speciality.

It is your responsibility at all times to keep your personal information up to date. ISBT shall not be responsible to verify or update any of the information.

2.1.2       Additional personal information may be requested to help identification or communication, e.g, your telephone number, the         name of your national society.

2.1.3       As a member you will receive the following benefits:

  1. Access to ISBT Education (including congress webcasts and presentations)
  2. Subscription for Vox Sanguinis (paper + online)
  3. Access to Transfusion Today 
  4. Access to webinars and live journal clubs
  5. Receipt of the monthly E-news
  6. Registration discount at ISBT congresses
  7. Online access to Working Party materials
  8. Voting at yearly General Assembly
  9. Nominating candidates for elections to the Board of Directors
  10. Opportunity to be elected to the ISBT Board of Directors

2.2     Honorary Members have the same rights as Individual Members, although they are not eligible to stand for a position on the ISBT Board of Directors.

2.3     Affiliate Members are any Blood Services, Blood Centres, or National Blood Transfusion Societies that wish to benefit from the scientific and educational activities of ISBT on the basis of a financial contribution. The organisation must be “not for profit”, not a commercial company and have made a commitment to abide by the Code of Ethics (see also Article 5 under 2.c. of the Statutes).

One Named Representative of the Affiliate may attend the General Assembly and exercise the membership rights granted by the Society.

The Affiliate Member must provide the Central Office with:

1.       Name, address and contact details;

2.       A statement endorsing the Code of Ethics of the Society;

3.       Name and address of the proposed affiliate representative to the Society.

4.       The number of employees or members of the Affiliate Institution.

2.4     Honorary and Affiliate members are entitled to attend and vote in the Society’s General Assembly, but they are not entitled to hold a position on the Board of Directors. Honorary and Affiliate members have the right to nominate candidates for elections of the Board of Directors.

2.5     Individual and Affiliate members must pay an annual contribution fee, the amount and the conditions of which will be approved by the General Assembly. Exemptions to this requirement are outlined in the By-laws of the Society. Honorary members are exempt from paying contributions.

3.       ISBT Obligations

3.1     ISBT shall have the following obligations during the term of this Agreement:          

3.1.1       The Society will protect the personal data provided in the membership registration form and thereafter, and will use its best efforts to prevent unlawful sharing of personal data with any third parties if this is not essential to the execution of the membership benefits or other core business of the society.

3.1.2       The Society will set up or establish processors agreements with all third parties that need access to membership data in order to perform any of the membership benefits identified in 2. Member Rights and Obligations.

3.1.3       In case of a data breach, including hacking or loss of data, ISBT will, according to the GDPR, inform members of this within 72 hours.

3.1.4       ISBT will use its best efforts to act according to ISBT Statutes and By-Laws and the European General Data Privacy Regulations when processing personal data of members.

4        Term and Termination

4.1     Membership is terminated:

a)       On the death of an Individual or Honorary member or on the dissolution of an Affiliate member;

b)       By written notification of termination by the member to the Central Office;

c)       By written notification of termination by the Society to the member;

d)       As a result of expulsion.

5        Applicable law

5.1     This agreement shall be governed by the laws of The Netherlands. Any dispute that may arise shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

6        Other

6.1     This Agreement and the obligations of ISBT and the Member may not be assigned, transferred or delegated by one party without prior written consent of the other parties.

6.2     ISBT may conduct surveys or questionnaires about issues that are of interest to ISBT or the professional field of Transfusion Medicine. The respondent’s data provided in such surveys or questionnaires shall remain anonymous and will be treated confidentially.

6.3     ISBT may perform statistical analysis of website traffic and response to product offers in order to improve its services. Statistical information arising from such statistical analysis shall not be reducible to individual users.

6.4     ISBT may perform statistical analysis of information submitted by Members, e.g. renewal rate, congress attendance, in order to develop and further improve (educational) services to our members.

6.4     ISBT is the sole owner of the ISBT website and is therefore the sole owner of any data collected through the ISBT website, notwithstanding your individual rights under this agreement.
