Gwen Clarke

Gwen Clarke is a physician with training at the University of Alberta and at Emory University. She has clinical and research interests in perinatal immunohematology and experience as a hospital transfusion medicine physician and with the Canadian blood supplier. Her current role with Canadian Blood services includes medical leadership for perinatal and immunohematology reference laboratories, consultation in donor testing and for the Rare Blood Program. Gwen is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is a former program director for residency training in Hematopathology and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Gwen has recently completed a term as president of the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine.

Shirley Owusu Ofori
Regional Director Africa (2020-2024)
Shirley Owusu-Ofori is currently Head of Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Acting Director of Central Zonal Blood Center in Kumasi, Ghana. Her research interests span across blood donor care, voluntary donor activity and blood safety in resource-constrained economies. She is a member of the ISBT Academy Advisory Committee and Science Series Editorial Board. Shirley has been runner up for ISBT Award for Developing Countries (Individual) on two consecutive occasions; 2012 and 2014. She serves as the Medical Advisor to the Ghana Haemophilia Society. She is a keen advocate and trainer in blood safety and safe transfusion practices with a special interest in improving survival outcomes in Maternal and Paediatric patients. She has led clinical trials evaluating intervention methods to prevent disease transmission including novel diagnostic approaches and photochemical blood treatment systems to inactivate pathogens and white blood cells in blood products.
Jannison Karlly Cavalcante Ribeiro
Jannison Ribeiro is a Biomedical Scientist who graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in 2008 with a Master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He obtained his PhD in Health Biotechnology at Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE) in 2019. Jannison Ribeiro is also a specialist in Clinical Hematology, 2014 and Clinical Pathology 2019. Currently, he develops postgraduate activities in Hemotherapy and MBA in Health Service Management. Jannison is a professor at UECE and is the coordinator of advanced research in hematology and hemotherapy at Hemoce. He is interested in studying tissue bioengineering, gene therapy, CART cell therapy, complementary molecular diagnosis applied to hematological diseases and Patient Blood Management.
Ratti Ram Sharma
Ratti Ram Sharma (MD) is currently Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,Chandigarh, India. He has been working in the specialty for last 25 years and has keen interest in Apheresis, Stem Cell biology, blood component quality control and clinical transfusion practice. He has been instrumental in developing the curriculum for M.D. Transfusion Medicine programme in the Institute and established an active therapeutic apheresis and Bone Marrow processing unit in the department and received “Advancing apheresis technology runner-up award” from Terumo Caridian BCT, USA in 2014. Has been recipient of prestigious JR Jolly (2014) & H.D. Shourie (2008) awards of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology for his scientific research & innovative ideas in the field of Transfusion Medicine. Certificate of distinction from the University of Minnesota as a special research fellow in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, USA for his active participation in academic & research activities. He is the Member of WHO Advisory group on Blood safety. He is the Member of National blood safety and hemovigilance programme implementation working groups. He has more than 100 publications both in National and International Journals.
Nelson Hirokazu Tsuno
Nelson H Tsuno currently holds the positions of Deputy Director General of the Japanese Red Cross Kanto-Koshinetsu Block Blood Center, Senior Director of the Laboratory of the same blood center, Visiting Associate Professor at Keio University School of Medicine, and Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo. He has more than 20 years working experience in the transfusion medicine field, in both the university hospital and the blood service. He has chaired the ISBT Platelet Immunobiology WP with Dr Sentot Santoso and Prof. Ulrich J Sachs until 2021, and started activities of the WP in Asia by organizing training courses and workshops. He is also an active member of the ISBT Granulocyte Immunobiology WP and the Global Blood Safety WP. His research interests include platelets & granulocytes immunobiology, blood donors/donation, blood safety and donor testing. Presently, he is a section editor of the Vox Sanguinis.
