What is the ISBT?

The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) is a scientific society founded in 1935. Over the years ISBT has grown into a truly international society where transfusion medicine professionals from over 100 countries come together to share knowledge to improve the safety of blood transfusion worldwide.

What are the advantages of going to an ISBT congress?

You get to attend state-of-the-art lectures, connect and network with transfusion medicine professionals from all over the world, and enjoy social events. 

Who can attend an ISBT congress?

Everyone across the transfusion field including non-ISBT members. 

How to get a Harold Gunson fellowship?

The Harold Gunson Fellowship are made available for  ISBT Regional and International congresses to allow young transfusion professionals to have a chance to attend an ISBT cogress.

To apply you need to:

  • Be the first, submitting and presenting author of an abstract which has been accepted for the scientific programme of the ISBT congress you wish to attend. 
  • Be 40 years of age or under at the date of the first day of the congress.
  • Not have received a Harold Gunson fellowship twice before. Applicants from very high or high HDI countries can only receive the Harold Gunson Fellowship once.

Why should you become an ISBT member?

Joining the ISBT allows you to get involved in the society such as joining a Working Party, the Young Professionals Council, and to have the chance to be elected to the Board of Directors.
